National Labor Alliance announces new dental and vision benefit

The National Labor Alliance for Healthcare Coalitions is introducing a new product for its members.

“The NLA Dental and Vision Plan” will become operational on April 1, 2016. The plan is available to all individual members and their families of the Unions in each of the Coalitions.

This benefit is not designed to compete with a dental or vision program that a member may enjoy at their place of employment. If you have dental or vision coverage through your employer, your coverage is either paid for by your employer or, if it is voluntary, you may be able to make the benefit pre-tax through the use of a cafeteria plan. If you purchase a qualified benefit such as dental insurance on a pre-tax basis, you could save as much as 15-25% of the cost of the benefit through tax savings.

This benefit is designed specifically for those union members who do not have access to a dental or vision plan at work, do not have coverage because they are in between jobs, or maybe have retired and no longer have access to an employer group dental or vision plan. We understand that many union members have been promised health, dental, and vision coverage in their retirement plans and, due to insufficient resources, those promises have not always been kept. This NLA Dental and Vison Plan is especially for them.

The dental coverage is underwritten by Delta Dental Insurance Company, rated A- (excellent) by A.M. Best Rating Services. The vision coverage is underwritten by VSP (Vision Service Plans) or Davis Vision, two of the largest sellers of vision plans in the United States.
